Using my camera as an artist would use a paintbrush, I think of my work as visual alchemy: a transformation not of matter into gold but of light, color, and line into images. Intentional camera movement (ICM) and multiple exposure techniques allow me to challenge reality and capture a feeling, emotion or impression rather than simply recording what lies in front of my lens. The multiple exposure images of my My Portal to the Past series reflect the layers of the more than 2,000 years of history of the Basilica San Clemente in Rome. In Venice it was all about the light over the Grand Canal and the never ending movement of the gondolas, while in Burano, as always, it's about the colored houses.
