Ellis Island was the gateway to America for so many -- including my mother who arrived in 1922. While it boasts an amazing visitor's center today, the old hospital has yet to be restored. For me it's beauty lies in it's decayed grandeur and where the ghosts of those who once passed through can still be felt.
